About Dragons

When most people think "dragon" they most likely think of the Western dragon. Western dragons are usually portrayed as evil mean and bloodthirsty. They were also known to have huge hoards of gold and jewels hidden in their lairs. The most famous dragons are portrayed as Western-type dragons: St. George and the Dragon.  Although dragons (or dragon-like creatures) occur in many legends around the world different cultures have varying stories about monsters that have been grouped together under the dragon label. Chinese dragons and Eastern dragons generally are usually seen as benevolent whereas European dragons are usually malevolent (there are of course exceptions to these rules). Malevolent dragons also occur in Persian mythology.

There are many dragon legends in Britain and there was probably a widespread belief in them at one time. Many of the dragons described are of the worm (wurm) variety that is they have poisonous breath but no wings or arms to speak of. The Linton worm and the Lampton worm are two such dragons.

Dragon Origame. This is a wonderful optical illusion of a dragon whose eyes follow you round the room. You can download a copy of the actual dragon and try this illusion for yourself if you wish. This is a PDF file. Cut out the dragon fold and stick it and you will be able to see this fantastic illusion yourself. When you print the page out you will see that the instructions for folding the dragon are included.
